When so much is wrong,
it’s easy to miss hope springing up.
Working in the most broken nation on earth can be quite a challenge. “Roads” wash out the day before you plan to travel over them. Children are sick and close to death, with diseases easily treated but out of reach for a mother with no income. Government officials serve year after year but receive no pay. Otherworld crises distract a world grown weary by the dysfunction that is South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It’s easy to miss amid so much brokenness, but the tender shoots of hope are here. The inexplicable smiles, the warm welcomes in humble homes, plates piled high with food that children’s empty stomachs will never eat.
When those who have nothing give everything, it puts things back into sync in a world consumed with consuming.
Days spent here in South Sudan and DRC are full of encounters with broken systems; the list is long.
But what I did not miss, could not miss, is the joy, love, and kindness of another village overjoyed because they now have access to water.
After seeing so much that is broken, I am grateful for the thousands who willingly and generously give so we can create hope.
Thank you for making it possible for us to give the most fundamental building block for life - H2O💦.
It’s simple.
It’s basic.
It doesn’t happen without you.
