Generosity spreads

February 21, 2018

Mothers are ferocious warriors for their families. Today, those same mothers run businesses repairing boreholes, earning enough to feed their families, pay school fees, and even lend a hand to others.

Meet Juma Hamid. He operates a store in Yei River State, and in September 2017 his store – like many – was quiet. What was once a thriving business became a silent liability, a stockpile of life's essentials as people fled Yei in search of safety.

But what Hamid did was different; he stayed. Instead of shutting down his shop and letting his stocks rot, he saw an opportunity to be generous. He gave supplies to whomever he could. Free of charge, he supplied what people needed in their time of crisis.

The bonus to Juma's bravery: He was the only store open when folks began to return home! Juma was able to reopen his store in October as many Yei citizens were returning to their homes to rebuild their lives and put their children back in school.

When we give generously to provide clean water, we don’t just give clean water – we give others the opportunity to give generously to their communities. When you give out of what you have, people like Juma Hamid are able to give out of what they have.
