Overnight shoes, laptops, steaks, lab results, FedEx, UPS, USPS, there is virtually nothing we can’t get in 24 hours.

And now, the same is true in South Sudan.

For as long as we can remember, getting your village well repaired has been an exercise in extreme patience and outsized luck. The local water department might have a trained mechanic but rarely has any spare parts. An NGO might choose your area to do some repairs, and they may not. In fact, your area may not be on anyone's list for years to come.

On April 6, as our team pulled into Alek village, we were greeted with dancing and, eventually, a speech by the local chief. The repair of the Alek well had taken just…

24 HOURS!!

A simple chain that we pay $7.80 for had broken, causing women to walk four hours to the river. Usually, this would have been the new normal for months or even years.

But not now. As you can see from the picture below, women pump mechanics were on the job in less than 24 hours and had repaired another of what we hope will be 500 well repairs in 2023.

Please take that all in.

A local women-led well repair business just saved hundreds of women from giving all their time walking for water. All in 24 hours.

That is the reality of our work and why we are unabashed in asking you to give generously now so we can reach 500 wells this year.

Maybe we should rename our work “Well Repair Prime”!
