Welcome to 2024, the year the countries we work in face new challenges. The eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo is in complete disarray, with more than 1,500,000 in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps, and South Sudan is heading towards its first presidential election.

We serve resilient people for whom life offers few guarantees except for difficulty.

However, we are PREPARED because of your faithful support. We ended our year-end Ripple Effect campaign with $293,000 in donations, giving us a solid foundation to start the year as we seek to raise $1,500,000 to provide clean water and hope in the broken places.

However, as mentioned below by the UN Women, it is even more challenging to be a woman in either of these countries. That is why we make sure our water solutions are empowering women. There is a direct connection between water and women’s education and between Water is Basic and cultural change.

There is still work to be done in South Sudan for gender equality. More than half of women (51.5%) aged 20–24 are married before 18. Teen births are increasing.

Shockingly, about 27% of women aged 15-49 faced physical or sexual violence from a current or ex-partner in 2018.

When it comes to reproductive health, only 4% of women (15- 49 years) had their family planning needs sorted with modern methods. These stats scream for more action, especially in educating and supporting women on their rights and well-being in South Sudan. (UN Women)

Women face widespread sexual violence, disease, and displacement in conflict situations. In IDP camps, women are forced to go outside to find food. Many reported exploitation for sex in exchange for a few potatoes.

We humbly ask for your increased support in 2024 as we train another group in South Sudan, repair more than 700 wells, and continue to build rain catchment systems in IDP camps in DRC.
